I spent my childhood in South Africa and therefore still go back on holiday to see friends and family. I was planning a trip with my family when I had been going out with my boyfriend for a year and wanted him to come with to see where I had grown up and meet old friends and family, yet realised that the idea of spending 3 weeks on vacation with my family was pretty intimidating. As my family were planning to spend most of the trip in Durban and Johannesburg, I knew that my boyfriend couldn't visit South Africa without making a trip to Cape Town to see the iconic Table Mountain and historical Robben Island (oh and a visit to a vineyard for some wine tasting) As students we had little money for luxuries so I arranged for us to stay with a friend in Cape Town for 3 days. We left my parents and flew to Cape Town where we frantically crammed in as many sites and sounds as possible with the final day spent sipping luxurious cocktails which only cost a £1 on Camps Bay. The reason that I think this is one of the most romantic things I have ever done is that it was the first holiday that my boyfriend and I took, just the two of us and he got to see where I grew up and experience a little bit of my home which made it personal to both of us and something which we have wonderful memories of to this day.

The Most Romantic Thing I Have Ever Done is arranging for my boyfriend for his 21st a SURPRISE trip to Vegas. Without him knowing I arranged a 5 day break in Vegas for us and his 2 best friends. I managed to get upgraded from a 3 star hotel to a 4 star hotel with a nice suite. The first surprise was getting picked up in a Limo at the airport. Then we got to our room and "room service" arrived - which was actually his 2 best friends with champagne. Then I arranged a Helicopter Ride with a Picnic Landing over the Grand Canyon.

My most romantic memory was very recent. My boyfriend is a digital manager and forever makes fun of my quirky ways in which I use technology, especially my 1000 year old television! This is why this night became so memorable. I informed him that I would be making dinner, the normal traditional romantic gestures - candles, music and real homemade food (including homemade ice-cream which entailed setting my alarm for 2 hour intervals through the night to churn by hand!) but there was a twist which kept me smiling throughout the whole meal. After we had dined I asked him to serve the ice cream so that we could watch a film upstairs. When he got to the bedroom his face lit up. I had borrowed a projector from work and made a cosy cinema, I had laid a blanket on the floor with cushions and used twinkle lights to decorate my walls. It was romantic because it was thoughtful and unique to us, this is the main premise of real romance. Onlookers may not understand why he was so touched but that moment is the moment that needs to be captured throughout a full wedding day, the exclusive understanding you both have through studying each other’s personalities and passions.

The most romantic thing I have had the pleasure of being involved with was when I was asked by a friend to help with his proposal to his girlfriend. He knew he wanted it to be amazing and he knew all her favourite things, including little touches he knew she would love, but he didn’t know where to start. First we decided on a date, her birthday and then wrote down a list of all her favourite things, foods, colours, music and flowers, Once I had all the information I was able to put together a magical evening that they would both remember forever. So the day arrived and he whisked his girlfriend off to her friends for a day of birthday shopping. Her friends had no idea of the events that where going to unfold because to insure that she knew nothing we had agreed to tell no one. She believed he was working all day and was going out for a birthday meal later that evening. The morning whizzed by in a flurry of activity and the evening dragged as I paced the floor waiting for the text that held her answer………. She had arrived home to a path way lit by tea lights which wrapped around the house and led her to the back. The garden had been transformed with torches lighting the gate way and more tea lights creating a pathway to a mini marquee. The trees and bushes where lit up with nets of fairy lights, with a love seat nestled into a little alcove. The marquee doors hung open to reveal a beautifully decorated dinner table. White tablecloths, crystal candle holders, scatter diamonds and lilac flowers adorned the table. The chairs where decorated with white chair covers and lilac sash bows and lilac, heart shaped fairy lights hung from the marquee walls, The evening ended with the release of personalised Chinese lanterns and a BIG YES from her!!!!!!

I went travelling Australia for a year with my close friend Nathan. When we were travelling up the Queensland coast Nathan met a girl he really liked, we travelled with her and her friends until we got to Cairns where Nathan and I were going to fly down to Melbourne to work for a while. I knew he hated the idea of parting from this girl, as her and her friends were going camping in a separate direction, but he didn’t want to leave me on my own. So on the morning of our flight I made up his mind for him, without him knowing I bought him a sleeping bag and arranged that the girls picked him up from the bus stop where we were catching our airport shuttle. He was so happy to be able to go with her. They stayed together for the next six months and when he got home, they moved in together and are now engaged.
